Community Federal Presents $1,500 Donation to the Plymouth-Canton Educational Excellence Foundation
Plymouth, MI (Nov. 11,
2002) – Community Federal Credit Union recently donated $1,500
to the Plymouth-Canton Educational Excellence Foundation from
its Community Shares program, an annual campaign tied to growth
in savings deposits. Each year Community Federal donates a portion
of funds to benefit educational programs in Michigan. This year’s check presentation was made at Hoben Elementary’s School Credit Union, one of five student credit unions operated by Community Federal in Plymouth-Canton schools. Accepting the donation was Steve Harper, board member and treasurer of the Plymouth-Canton Educational Excellence Foundation. Harper said, "These funds will help us to promote financial literacy through our current curriculum." Since Community Shares was introduced in 2000, Community Federal has donated a total of $15,200 to educational programs including the Plymouth-Canton Educational Excellence Foundation. Sue O’Connor, Community Shares coordinator, explains that the school recipients select the educational programs to receive the funds. "However, we always encourage financial literacy through a variety of school partnerships, including our student credit unions." Community Federal currently has more than 34,000 members and total assets of approximately $270 million. Membership with Community Federal is open to anyone who lives or works in Plymouth, Canton, Northville, Novi, and the northern Michigan counties of Otsego and Montmorency.
