Plymouth, MI (May 22, 2002) – Community Federal Credit Union recently announced the winners of its annual scholarship program. The Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship Fund, an affiliate of the credit union, has provided a total of more than $40,000 over the past 14 years. This year’s winners were selected from a total of 29 applications from eligible students who are Community Federal members and who will use the funds to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Community Federal Scholarship Fund Board Chair Roger Ballard said, "These scholarships provide an excellent way to share the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’." The credit union has two scholarship funds—one in honor of Margaret Dunning, a longtime credit union volunteer, and another to honor the memory of George Lawton, the credit union’s general manager of 29 years. Winners of this year’s Margaret Dunning scholarships are Audrie Lin, Northville, Northville High School; Michael McDonald, Plymouth, Plymouth Salem High School; Keith Lukasik, Plymouth, Detroit Catholic Central; Amber Navarra, Atlanta, Atlanta High School; and Nicolle Kownacki, Plymouth, Georgetown University sophomore. Community Federal’s Business Partnership Coordinator Natalie McLaughlin said, "This year, a total of $5,000 will be presented by our Scholarship Fund committee members at each winner’s school honors program." With more than 34,000 members and total assets exceeding $260 million, Community Federal Credit Union is headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan. Its membership is open to anyone who lives or works in the communities of Plymouth, Canton, Northville and Novi, and in Otsego and Montmorency counties.
