Community Federal Launches
Savings Program to Benefit Area Schools
Plymouth,
MI (Aug.
12, 2002) Community Federal Credit Union is launching
its annual Community Shares program to benefit educational programs
in Michigan. The Community Shares program provides donations that
are tied to growth in savings deposits.
This years
campaign, to begin in mid-August, will include new certificates
of deposit opened through September 2002. Credit Union CEO Roger
Ballard says, "This program offers an excellent opportunity
to demonstrate our solid commitment to the schools and communities
in which our members live and work." Since Community
Shares was introduced in 2000, Community Federal has donated a
total of $10,000 to educational programs including the Plymouth-Canton
Educational Excellence Foundation, Northville Education Foundation,
Gaylord High Schools Technology Fund, mentoring programs
in Atlanta and Hillman, and the Johannesburg-Lewiston Community
Schools. Check presentations will be made in October to the
various educational programs. Sue OConnor, Community Shares
coordinator, explains that the schools select the educational
programs to receive the funds. "However, we always promote
financial literacy."
Community
Federal currently has more than 34,000 members and total assets
of approximately $270 million. Membership with Community Federal
is open to anyone who lives or works in Plymouth, Canton, Northville,
Novi, and the northern Michigan counties of Otsego and Montmorency.
