The 2003 winners were selected from a total of 39 applications from eligible
students who are Community Federal members and who will use the funds to attend
an accredited post-secondary educational institution.
"Recognizing that tuitions costs are increasing and the availability
of funds for education is decreasing, our Fund Board decided to increase the
number of scholarships to help members and their families," said Roger
Ballard, board chair of the Community Federal Scholarship Fund.
For 15 years, the credit union’s annual scholarship program has awarded
a total of $50,000 to college bound members who have demonstrated a commitment
to their education and community. Community Federal has two scholarship funds—one
in honor of Margaret Dunning, a longtime credit union volunteer, and another
to honor the memory of George Lawton, the credit union’s general manager of
29 years.
Winners of this year’s scholarships from Plymouth-Canton Community Schools
include Canton High School senior Rahul Mehta and Salem High School seniors
Sameer Dohadwala, Nicole Genrich, Brandon Hill, Brendan Kownacki, and Brandon
Mancini. Lisa Ther of Agape Christian Academy in Canton was also awarded a
scholarship. Receiving scholarships at Gaylord High School, which is also located
in the credit union’s member service area, were William O’Neill, Jane Pudvan
and Jennifer Walsh.
Headquartered in Plymouth, Mich., membership in Community Federal is open
to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Michigan cities,
townships or counties of Plymouth, Canton, Northville, Novi, Alpena, Otsego
and Montmorency. With more than 34,000 members, Community Federal provides
financial services to members at seven branch locations and through a variety
of automated and online services. For more information, visit the credit union
