Community Federal Opens Hillman High School Credit Union to Help Promote Financial
Literacy
Hillman, MI (May 5, 2003) – Community Federal recently opened a credit
union at Hillman High School to give students the opportunity to learn more
about savings and how to manage their money.
Hillman High School Principal Andrew Rogers said, "We’re always looking
for opportunities to get our students into real world experiences to give them
the best education we can. Our partnership with Community Federal helps us
do that."
Students of teacher Hallie Snyder’s Real Business class are responsible
for running the credit union one day a week and also marketing the program
to other students.
Community Federal’s Teller Supervisor Nancy Post coordinated the high
school program and explained, "Hillman’s High School Credit Union is an
important expansion of the program we’ve had at Hillman Elementary for the
past several years. High school students have the opportunity to do more kinds
of transactions and learn how to use ATM and online banking services."
Snyder said, "Our partnership with the credit union complements our financial
literacy program by helping students understand what it takes to build good
credit."
All students have the opportunity to sign up for membership and conduct their
transactions real-time over Community Federal’s system that is made available
during the school’s Achievement period.
Headquartered in Plymouth, Mich., membership in Community Federal is open
to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Michigan cities,
townships or counties of Plymouth, Canton, Northville, Novi, Alpena, Otsego
and Montmorency. With
more than 34,000 members, Community Federal provides financial services to
members
at six branch locations and through a variety of automated and online services.
