Livonia, MI (May 20, 2003) – The Michigan Credit Union Foundation has named Robert Huston, president and CEO of Co-op Services Credit Union, as the recipient of the 2003 International CU Development Award. The award will be presented on May 31 at the 2003 Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) Annual Convention and Exposition in Grand Rapids.

Huston was recognized for his efforts to further credit union development beyond Michigan and the U.S., particularly to third world countries. He has served on the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and the MCUL World Affairs Committee.

Foundation President Dan Moss said, "Under Bob’s direction, the MCUL World Affairs Committee and the WOCCU researched the feasibility of partnering with a specific country to assist in its CU development. As a result of this study, the MCUL formally entered into a partnership with Macedonia."

Co-op Services Credit Union has also hosted and trained credit union staff from Eastern European countries.

"I am very honored to receive this award," said Huston who also expressed his appreciation to Co-op Services’ volunteer board of directors, staff and members for their support and willingness to reach out to people in Michigan, and worldwide.

Huston began his credit union career in 1976 when he accepted a position as assistant general manager of Co-op Services Credit Union. During his 27 years in the credit union movement, Huston has held numerous leadership positions with the MCUL, CUcorp, MCUE Pension Fund, CU Executives Society, Service Centers Corporation, CUNA Mutual and CU Processing, Inc.
